Tips & tricks for planting & feeding your flowers, trees & shrubs

We sell and specialize in Espoma Organic chemical amendments for all of your plant food needs.

Planting Tips

  • Dig a hole twice as wide and the same depth as the root ball
  • Loosen roots and spread them into prepared hole
  • Replace half of the removed soil with compost, peat moss or all purpose garden soil
  • Mix in Bio-tone and Starter Plus
  • Refill hole with amended soil
  • Do not mound stems. Water thoroughly and add mulch to conserve water and control weeds

Feeding Tips

  • Feed trees and shrubs twice a year (spring & fall)
  • Feed flowers and vegetables once per month throughout the growing season
  • Apply plant food like salt and pepper, spreading thinly around the drip line of the plant
  • Do not apply plant food any closer than three inches to stem of plant
  • Wash off any plant food that falls on stems or foliage
  • Water thoroughly

What are Mycorrhizae?
They are beneficial fungi that attach to nearby roots and spread very rapidly into the soil, absorbing water and nutrients for the plant.

What is critical for Mycorrhizae to work?
You need to place the Mycorrhizae in the hole near the roots at the time of the planting. This is included in Bio-tone Starter Plus.
